sample poem written by Carol Smith

Nature’s twist of the chupacabra
wiry, wooly hair and rough, white teeth
unexcelled in essence murderous, death breath
yet quiet and gentle by a roaring fire
has spent his sweeter nature in retrospective
likely to never enter a single thought cell again
was when his dam (wouldn’t that be dam) left her babe
to fend for himself.  I think the teeth were just too much.
Could have been a gentle beast for beauty
if beauty’s affinity for smell was unusual,
pure as the gentle coyote dining on rabbit tails
and an occasional chicken,
leaving free the tiny ground hogs to spread
far from Punxsutawney and their weather task.
